The Future of Design: ADFA 2025 Winners & New Frontiers in AI

Oct 30, 2025

As we wrap up ADFA 2025, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all participants, jury members, sponsors, and supporters who made ADFA 2025 a success. This year’s submissions showcased remarkable creativity and groundbreaking exploration of AI-powered architectural design.

Announcing the Winner of ADFA 2025

We are proud to congratulate ILVVLLU, led by Leung Man Wah and Kong Ling Chuen, as this year’s winner. Their project, Pebble House is a five-storey student hostel near JKUAT that balances vibrant communal spaces with calm private quarters. Its locally sourced stone facade celebrates texture and authenticity, while AI tools enhanced its design visualization, bringing life to this thoughtful, context-driven architectural project. Their project stood out for its The winner's project stood out for its thoughtful integration of the local urban context and a comprehensive spatial design approach that skillfully blended creativity with technical expertise. The jury praised the use of local materials and the building's response to its climate and social fabric, emphasizing the design's practical layout and diverse room mix tailored for students. The project also impressed through its coherent facade, spatial planning, and attention to detail, alongside a seamless application of AI tools that enhanced visualization and presentation, including a remarkable AI-generated video.

Jury Quote:

  • "The team demonstrated a strong contextual sensitivity and a comprehensive spatial narrative, weaving urban environment considerations into their design with creativity and skill."

  • "The AI workflow was clear and contributed significantly to detailed, atmospheric, and expressive visualizations."

  • "Overall, a minimalistic yet richly detailed design with a well-structured workflow that respects the site and materiality."

Honourable Mention Teams

We would also like to recognize the outstanding efforts of our Honourable Mention teams:

  • BuildBotics – A well-thought-out AI-driven design featuring excellent material control and adaptable facade shading. Praised for its innovative AI workflow and clear presentation.
Jury Quote: "The balance of passive cooling, tactile realism, and spatial hierarchy is technically impressive."

  • UrbanNomad – Innovative integration of nature and spatiality with dynamic communal courtyard spaces and bamboo facade. Commended for transparent AI decision-making.
Jury Quote: "Floating balconies create a dynamic social courtyard that fosters community."

  • Architelligence – A thoughtful reinterpretation of local traditions using AI for practical, visually coherent layouts and materials. Recognized for a simple yet effective AI workflow.
Jury Quote: "Strong AI integration and a comfortable, modern environment for users."

  • 6D4 – A distinctive design theme with clear spatial organization that shows strong design agency. Needs more facade development, but conceptually promising.
Jury Quote: "Strong concept and clear organization of space."

  • WYHL Design – Noted for a fresh and original use of AI, offering a unique perspective distinct from other entries.
Jury Quote: "A new approach brings a fresh perspective deserving recognition."

Each of these teams presented inspiring ideas that pushed the boundaries of AI in architecture.

Insights from Our Jury Panel

Our esteemed jury, comprised of experts from diverse architectural and technology fields, evaluated entries based not only on design quality but also on the integration and innovation within AI workflows. The ADFA 2025 competition uniquely values how AI tools are used throughout the design process to enhance creativity, efficiency, and expression.

The jury highlighted the importance of a balanced approach, where thoughtful design solutions go hand in hand with clear, innovative AI-assisted methodologies that can be adapted for future practice. This dual focus ensures that both architectural excellence and technological fluency are recognized.

Some selected reflections from the jury include:

  • “ADFA 2025 not only focuses on visual outcomes but equally values the clarity and innovation of AI-driven workflows that shape the design process.”

  • “The best submissions demonstrated seamless integration of AI tools into practical, buildable solutions, combining creativity with technical rigor.”

This approach underscores the evolving role AI plays in shaping the future of architectural workflows and design thinking.

Acknowledging Our Sponsors and Partners

We extend sincere gratitude to our sponsors: ADDD, Civils.ai , Raven, Archmaster.ai, InspectMind AI, HKIAI and Just In Tech, whose generous support helped make ADFA 2025 possible and empowered the participants with valuable resources.

What’s Next?

Looking ahead, we’re excited to launch the Expresso Workshop Series — a 45-minute, bi-weekly deep dive into AI-powered design tools and workflows, with the cost of an espresso.

In the first workshop, “Intentional Imagery with Accidental Medium,” we tackle a universal design challenge: creating high-quality, consistent visual output quickly and affordably. Because whether you’re building a brand, a chair, or a collection, the principle is the same —

Consistency builds identity. Repetition builds recognition.

Hot Take Fresh Out of Oven: Is Winning A Slow Race...Enough?
In boardrooms across the industry, a comforting narrative is taking hold: "Our competitors are also holding back. The economy is bad. We don't need to lead; we just need to be one step ahead of the firm next door when the time is right."   Is that a strategy? Or does it mistake a relative race against known competitors for an absolute transformation of the entire playing field. Is this a f...
